The benefits of appreciation

Is there a negative effect of not feeling appreciated for good deeds you perform ?

it can be very demotivating

I think lack of appreciation can have a negative effect on people in general, whether it is in a work setting or a personal relationship. However, I think sometimes just knowing that you're doing good or helping someone is enough even if your good intentions or actions are not being met with appreciation.
