Eric Wright with The Depressions
I was sitting in my office one day at Pebble Beach Sound Recorders, a 24 track recording studio in Worthing, West Sussex, way back in the 70s when 2 guys came in with a cassette and this turned out to be the beginning of the adventure soon to become known as The Depressions.
I was the Studio Manager and General Manager of the Pebble Beach Production Company and later became, to my surprise, the Manager of The Depressions.
The 2 guys were Dave Barnard and Eric wright who I knew from a Brighton Rock Band called Tonge. They were managed by a friend called Ian Grant who later managed The Stranglers, Big Country and currently Sadie & the Hotheads and he also owns and runs Track Records.
We at Pebble Beach punted those tracks around record companies in London and eventually were told Barn Records were interested. I remember asking who Barn Records were and the response was two words. "Chas Chandler"
Chas had been a star in the sixties band, The Animals, managed and Produced Jimi Hendrix and later Slade. Arrangements were made for Chas to come and see the band playing at The Buccaneer in Brighton. Andy Cowan Martin and I were to wait on the steps outside Worthing Railway Station and Chas would be turning up in a car.
We waited for a while and then saw a gold coloured Rolls Royce cruising around the corner and knew instantly that Chas had arrived.
He loved the band, signed them and the adventure began.
